Breed measurements

I have been lately interested in old newfoundland breed books, studying old breed standards to go over what the Newfoundland as a breed used to be. Here are some measurements.

The firsts careful measurements of the breed were taken in Bewick (England) in 1779:

Measurement Inches Centimeters
Nose to end of the tail 74 188
Tail 22 55,9
Girth (measured from between shoulders) 38 96,5
Around the head (measured over the ears) 24 61
Around the upper foreleg 9,5 24,1

Just over a hundred years later in 1881, Vero Shaw measured the Newfoundland again.
